Our Story
Vision
The SRC will be the centralizing resource for students, employees, and community members for sustainability education and opportunities. Every student will graduate with sustainability knowledge and values that will assist them in their careers and communities to provide enough for everyone, forever.
Mission
The SRC is a hub for students, providing resources, education, and programming to forward environmental balance, economic vitality, and social equity. Students, as well as campus and community partners, are invited to share a platform from which to address the root causes of ecological disruption, deepen understandings of the interdependence of all life, and engage the challenges and solutions of sustainability in a campus, community, and global context.
Enough for Everyone, Forever
History
Sustainability Initiative
In 2013, the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor created the Sustainability Initiative. This initiative was to provide a platform for interdisciplinary, community-engaged education and research for sustainability. The platform enabled UCI to elevate established and emerging collaborations. Through this initiative, the Global Sustainability Resource Center was born.
The GSRC
The Global Sustainability Resource Center (GSRC) became a collaboration through the UCI Community Resilience Projects, Student Housing Sustainability Program, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and the Division of Undergraduate education. The GSRC’s goal was to create a space for UCI Students to lead sustainability efforts on campus within these unique partnerships.
Today
In 2020, the GSRC became the UCI Sustainability Resource Center (SRC) underneath the Division of Student Affairs’ Student Life & Leadership. The SRC gained a unique physical space with other student spaces such as the Latinx Resource Center, Womxn’s Center for Success, DREAM Center, and UC Immigrant Legal Services called the RISE Suite. In this area, the SRC provides leadership for sustainability education and engagement across campus – all with students at the forefront.
