UCI Green Office Certification
The SRC manages the UCI Green Office Certification Program. This is a campus-wide, points-based program that certifies and awards departments for their sustainable practices. The program is designed to allow departments the ability to evaluate their current practices, develop an action plan, and receive recognition for their sustainable practices. Departments achieve certification in just four simple steps and certification remains valid for three years.
The Green Office Certification program is designed to help units contribute to the UC Sustainable Practices Policy.

Certification Goals
- Promote sustainability and conservation awareness throughout the campus community.
- Recognize offices and departments that are already taking the first steps for sustainability and conservation
- Help offices and departments develop an action plan to further incorporate sustainability into their operations
- Achieve UCI’s goal of being a “zero waste” campus
Learning Outcomes
- Employees will learn how they can practice sustainability in their own lives.
- Employees will be more aware of campus resources to help them practice sustainability while at work.
- Employees will learn how o take initiative in further implementing sustainability in their workplace.

The Green Office Certification program has 4 levels of certification which units can achieve depending on the number of points they obtain from a certification checklist. Each certification requires a minimum number of points for achievement and offices/departments can progress in certification levels as they gain more points. Campus units will receive an action plan after certification to help further implement sustainability. Certification lasts 3 years, so units will have ample time to implement these action plans to aid in accumulating points in future certifications.

The Process
- Units will have an Overview Presentation to introduce the program, and prior to the presentation will be sent a Staff Survey.
- A checklist is filled out by unit team or individual point of contact.
- After the checklist is submitted, it is reviewed by the Green Office team and a verification appointment is set up.
- Based on the results, Green Office team will present their findings and give recommendations on action steps for the unit and then will be certified.
