Organization: Urban Ocean Lab (UOL)
Description:
Urban Ocean Lab (UOL) is looking for resourceful and solution-oriented graduate students, recent graduates of advanced degree programs, or early career professionals to apply to our 2024 Fellowship Program. We are particularly interested in individuals who enjoy collaboration, take initiative, are comfortable working independently, are skilled at balancing and executing competing priorities, have connections to coastal cities, and have interest or experience in public policy.
As a Fellow, you will provide support to UOL’s team and projects, ranging from policy research and writing to communications, design and layout, and fundraising initiatives. Ideal candidates will have some experience in public policy or a background in climate or ocean policy (coastal city experience is a plus!), and will be able to work both independently and collaboratively, take initiative, and are comfortable in start-up environments.
In addition to having strong writing, research, and communications skills, Fellows should be proficient in or easily adapt to using Google Workspace and Airtable. Fellows will be expected to attend meetings, engage with stakeholders, and provide their individual expertise towards projects.
Fellows will contribute to ongoing projects, and responsibilities include:
● Supporting the development of our policy work, including:
○ Independently conducting policy research and analysis on our policy themes
(coastal ecosystems, offshore renewable energy, infrastructure, community
resilience, and climate-driven relocation).
○ Drafting policy memos, and other policy materials.
○ Conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses to identify key data and metrics to
understand and measure policy impact.
○ Assist in developing work plans using our project management tools.
● Assisting with communications and fundraising initiatives, including:
○ Sourcing content for and supporting the management of our website and
open-access resource hub.
○ Curating, drafting, and designing social media and editorial content.
○ Supporting fundraising efforts, including drafting grant proposals and donor
appeals, and maintaining our donor database.
This is a one year, part-time (20+ hours per week) or full-time (35–40 hours per week), remote position with an expected start date in February 2024, and offers a competitive hourly rate of $28–$30 commensurate with experience. Applicants must be based and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
